2013 Team 412

Jessica Hildebrandt

Team 412 has been a real blessing to me! It has taught me how to work withall kinds of different personalities, and therefore take into account many different ways of thinking. Personally, it has taught me to be flexible with unexpected obstacles and lend help in places I didn't expect I would have to. Team 412 has also brought me closer to God. Making it a priority to find time daily in a busy schedule, when you don't get a lot of alone time, has taught me how important my personal devotions are to my relationship with Jesus.  Being surrounded by strong young Christians has also been a real blessing because of the support they offer and fun we have together!

Being on team 412 this summer has been an amazing experience. I have learned so much in these 2 months and it has been an opportunity I’m glad I didn't pass on. Reconnecting with old friends, making new ones and being challenged in ways that I never have before are just a few of my highlights.  None of this would have been possible if it weren't for God bringing me here. I have grown by leaps and bounds in my faith and look forward to what is in store next!

I preached in front of a congregation for the first time. I learned that it isn't so scary because I wasn't alone up there, through the support of my team and the power of prayer, God was up on stage with me and He spoke through me.  I also learned how important it is to work together as a team because you can accomplish much more.  During my time in Winnipeg I was shown different ministries in The Salvation Army. I saw a variety of ways to run a church, plan a children`s program, set up a dignified soup kitchen, and I realized that I want to continue to serve God through these kind of ministries.

Being on Team 412 was one of the most enriching and eye-opening experiences of my life. I've learned things about myself that I'm not sure I would have learned if I wasn't on the team. God has shown me that despite the limitations I place on myself, I can still do all things through Him who gives me strength. Going to some of the different ministry units in the division allowed me to meet some amazing people, and really opened my eyes to the many ways the Salvation Army influences people's lives on a daily basis. I know lessons I've learned from being on this team will not only help me during camp this summer, but with whatever I find myself doing down the road as well.

Being on Team 412 this year has truly been a blessing for me.  Through the trips that we have taken, and the people we have met I have seen Gods amazing grace and power.  He has helped me grow immensely in these short months.  Being in a position of leadership has helped me grow in confidence, and has taught me that even a quiet person such as myself who likes to stay behind the scenes can be an example in "speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity".  I have gained relationships with some key leaders in The Army, and will cherish those friendships forever.  I continually thank God for this opportunity, and know that this is where He has meant for me to be.

This year was my first time being a part of Team 412 and being a member of the program team for Beaver Creek Camp. I remember being slightly apprehensive at the beginning of this adventure, not knowing if this was a good fit for me. I knew in my heart that God had called me to having a place on Team 412, and that it was where I was supposed to be, but I was worried if I would be equipped enough to follow through on the responsibilities of this ministry. Throughout this experience, I have discovered more about God's compassion, faithfulness, and sense of humor than ever before. I feel empowered in the Spirit of Christ, and I have trust in His wisdom and plans for my life. The opportunity of being a member of Team 412 has reaffirmed for me the importance of surrounding yourself with other believers and allowing yourself to be stretched outside your comfort zone, for there is where God's presence is abundant.

This is the first time I have ever been in a leadership enriching program. Most of the time, I don’t think of myself as a very good leader, and I often trust other people to be in charge. However, this summer I learned that there are some things I can lead in. For example, I was in charge of crafts for VBS on my team (the Blue Team with Kevin, Jenny, Jessica, and Michaela) and the fishing pole/paper boat making activity. Of course I had help from the rest of my team and would not have been able to do this without them. I also preached my first sermon and lead some devotions. I am very thankful that I had the chance this spring to learn more about being a leader. Not only did I learn about myself growing as a leader, but I also learned from the rest of my team. I got to watch my new and older friends grow in Christ and learn how to do new things. I could see that my teammates and friends grew a lot. I am so thankful for this spring. I could feel God’s presence very often and He worked through me in many ways. I am so thankful for what Christ has done in my life and would never want to live without Him.

On Team 412, I learned that faith is a vital point in our relationship with Jesus Christ. I heard wonderful stories of people’s lives where no matter what pitfalls, tunnels, storms and/or dark paths they’ve walked, Jesus is and will always be there. I’ve experienced what God is doing in the Salvation Army through things such as Kids Clubs, Waterston House/Centre and many other church ministries. I’ve heard and seen so much these past two months, but I know that Jesus means this, ‘to be a taste of what’s to come’. I believe that is what Team 412 teaches me and others, a taste of what Jesus Christ has in store for young people like myself. A chance to lead and grow with God. To be surrounded by His glory and to show the world as the young we will not be silent about our love for Jesus Christ.

Matthew 11:28-30: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
